2nd Annual “Sea Turtle Friendly” Lighting Extravaganza

Workshop, Book Signing, & Vendor Market

Do you live within a few blocks of the beach?  If yes, then the 2nd Annual Marine Turtle Lighting Extravaganza at the Cocoa Beach Holiday Inn on Saturday June 23rd is just for you!  The extravaganza will begin at 9am when state and federal lighting experts present an educational workshop on turtle friendly lighting.  The workshop will be followed by an “Official Marine Turtle Exterior Lighting Exam”.  Residents that pass the Lighting Exam will earn an official certificate of completion.

There will be short presentations on Brevard County ’s sea turtle protection and homeowner giveaway programs and the NESTS (Neighbors Ensuring Sea Turtles Survival) Program.  Code Enforcement Officers will be present to answer residents lighting questions.  A vendor area will be accessible throughout the event and will have something for everyone.  Turtle friendly lighting vendors will display and sell fixtures, shields, and window tinting, the Sea Turtle Preservation Society will have a sea turtle nest display, sea turtle merchandise for sale, and free sea turtle educational materials, and Melbourne Beach author Mara Uman Hixon will be selling and signing her children’s book “Turtles Way: Loggy, Greeny, and Leather”.  Sea turtle art and Still Nature Photography by Jim Angy will also be available.

The event is being co-sponsored by the Cocoa Beach Holiday Inn and the Brevard County Natural Resources Management Office.  For more information, call 633-2016 ext. 52431.
