Etegameno Investments plan to construct a gasification plant on Farm Tsumore. The invader bush will provide the fuel for the plant where it will be burnt in ovens and generate smoke, which will, in turn, drive turbines that produce energy. The charcoal, wood chucks and other by products from the process will be sold as cooking and heating fuel among others. Etegameno plans to establish a gasification plant with a capacity of 250kW per hour and expect a kW to sell at N$1.80 to N$2.30 per kW based on current trends. The market for the bush to electricity enterprise is assured since Namibia presently imports power to meet its demands.
Besides closing the gap between supply and demand for electricity, the land cleared of the invader bush will be used to grow crop and house livestock, increasing the prosperity of the native farmer. On Farm Tsumore specifically, Etegameno Investments will use the land to grow Jatropha plants for biodiesel production, another lucrative investment opportunity. Transforming a challenge into an opportunity, Etegameno Investments is well placed to take advantage of Combating Bush Encroachment for Namibia’s Development’s (CBEND’s) Independent Power Producers (IPP) programme with the support of the Namibian government.
